At Arizona Premier CPR, BLS Provider and BLS Renewal students are taught together using the same American Heart Association BLS course material.
Both Provider and Renewal students:
- Receive the same BLS instruction
- Practice the same hands-on skills
- Participate in applicable team-based training
- Complete the same required skills evaluation
- Meet the same successful course completion requirements
- Receive the same AHA BLS Provider eCard
The Provider or Renewal selection simply helps identify whether you are completing BLS for the first time or renewing previous training. It does not change the quality or content of your class.
Who Should Take an AHA BLS Course?
The American Heart Association BLS course is designed for healthcare professionals, trained first responders, healthcare students, and others who need to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in professional settings.
BLS is commonly required for:

What You Will Learn in BLS

Your course includes:

Taking BLS for the First Time?
Select BLS Provider when registering.
You will attend the same Arizona Premier CPR BLS class as students renewing their certification. Your instructor will provide the complete course instruction, hands-on practice, and evaluation required for successful completion.
No previous BLS certification is required to register as a Provider student.
Renewing Your BLS Certification?
Select BLS Renewal when registering if you have previously completed BLS training and are returning to renew your certification.
Renewal students participate in the same BLS course, skills practice, and evaluation as Provider students.
Renewing your certification does not mean simply extending your previous card. Students must successfully complete the current course requirements before a new AHA BLS Provider eCard can be issued.
Prefer BLS Blended Learning?
HeartCode® BLS is the American Heart Association's blended learning option.
Instead of completing all course content in the classroom, students complete the HeartCode BLS online portion independently and then attend a required hands-on skills session.
The hands-on session includes skills practice, instructor feedback, team scenarios, and skills testing.
Once both portions are successfully completed, students receive the same AHA BLS Provider eCard as students completing the traditional classroom course.
If you have already completed HeartCode BLS online, register for a BLS Hands-On Skills Session rather than the traditional classroom BLS course.
Required BLS Course Materials
Students participating in an instructor-led AHA BLS course are required to have access to the current American Heart Association BLS Provider Manual or authorized digital equivalent.
Each student should have individual access to the required course material. Course materials should not be shared or reproduced.
Please review your registration confirmation carefully before class for information regarding required materials.
BLS Requires Hands-On Skills
American Heart Association BLS certification requires students to demonstrate practical CPR and emergency-response skills.
During class, students receive hands-on training with CPR manikins and AED equipment while practicing techniques used during real-life cardiac and respiratory emergencies.
Your instructor provides feedback throughout the course to help improve technique, reinforce current BLS standards, and prepare you for successful skills evaluation.
